Meet Jana Shafer

Jana Shafer is The Stewpot’s new Director of Philanthropy and Engagement.

Jana has many years of experience in fundraising and serves as a collaborative leader. She also comes to The Stewpot from a very special organizational partner, Crossroads Community Services, where she served as Development Director/Director of Major Gifts at Crossroads since April of 2019. Crossroads was located on the second floor of The Stewpot building before moving away in 2019 and still provides The Stewpot food for its bi-monthly food distribution.

Jana started her fundraising experience at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra… for years as a volunteer and later as a staff member. She worked in many different roles there – Individual Giving Development Associate, Development Operations Coordinator, and Manager of Individual Giving. Jana has also been a Grant Writer and Consultant at North Texas Nonprofit Resources, Director of Development at Grant Halliburton Foundation, and Director of Development for Galaxy Counseling Center.

Jana received her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Arkansas and a Master of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology from University of Texas at Dallas. She taught science in both middle school and at the college level and holds a Texas State Lifetime teaching certificate for Grades 6-12.

Jana is a third generation Dallasite. She lives in the Preston Hollow area with her husband Steve. Their four children and six grandchildren all live within easy babysitting distance.

Jana is very excited to join The Stewpot and support its great work!
