Summer Kids' Club + Summer Crew 2022

The Stewpot supported the educational development of children and youth of nearby City Park Elementary (now home to Vogel Alcove) for over 30 years. And when the school closed, the Stewpot kept the programming going and growing, welcoming new students, and creating a Family Stabilization program to ensure the entire family was supported.

Today, The Stewpot offers Saturday Kids’ Club, Junior Crew, and Venturing Crew, which are designed to meet ongoing educational needs of children at-risk for poverty. Long-term financial stability is achieved through enrichment programs; educational scholarships; and support of basic needs, including a family stabilization program.

This summer, the Summer Kids’ Club and Summer Crews have been meeting during the week at FPC Dallas – building community, learning new skills, and combatting summer learning loss.

Students from low-income households lose about two months in reading achievement each summer. For seven weeks, Summer Kids’ Club children will rotate through classes that include: drama, science, art, and music. We’re also celebrating our 5th anniversary with S.P.A.R.K. – a six-week program by Noggin Educational Foundation whose goal it is to reduce/prevent summer learning loss in math and reading.

Summer Crew students in 7th to 9th grades have been expanding their minds by learning robotics, chess, and aspects of physics this summer. Thank you to FPC Dallas for providing the space to make this happen for the kids!

Summer Crew students in 10th to 12th grades have been touring universities and receiving information on higher education opportunities. We’re continuing The Stewpot’s partnership with the Project Management Institute – Dallas Chapter – providing the students with a life skills program.

The Stewpot also continues its partnership with Our Friends’ Place, which offers workshops for Summer Crew students in grades 9-12. From ourfriendsplace.org: “The SOAR to Success program was created for at-risk young women ages 12-24. However, this program is useful for any youth, young adult, or adult ally struggling with generational cycles of abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness.”
