The Stewpot provides services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, as well as to children and families who are at-risk.

The information below is for those experiencing homelessness; for information on our Children & Youth and Family Stabilization programs for at-risk children and families, please click here. If you are not homeless, please call the community help line at 211 for a more appropriate referral.

To those experiencing homelessness, we offer a comprehensive set of services at our main location at 1822 Young Street, Dallas, Texas 75201 (see map below).


All appointments are made in person on a first-come, first serve basis. The Stewpot does not provide casework services or make appointments over the telephone. 

We also offer three meals a day, 365 days at year at The Second Chance Café within The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center at 1818 Corsicana Street, Dallas, Texas 75201. Please contact The Bridge for information and eligibility requirements.

Description of Services:

  • Casework Assistance for qualifying individuals is available for identification documentation needs; Representative Payee assistance; counseling; and information on housing resources, shelters, and other services. There are no casework services on Friday afternoons.

  • Identification Documentation assistance is provided by Stewpot caseworkers who can order school records, marriage licenses, birth certificates and other vital records to help clients obtain identification documentation. This service is currently limited to the first 20 people in line at 8:00 a.m. Monday-Thursday. Please bring as much identifying information as possible. Clients are eligible for this assistance once per year and three times within a five year period. Stewpot ID's are available Monday-Thursday afternoons starting at 1:00 p.m. 

        A Document Bank is also available for vital record storage. The Document Bank is          accessible Monday-Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Details available at the front desk.

  • Representative Payee Program provides financial management for beneficiaries of Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits who have been deemed by the Social Security Administration to require a payee. Applications for new Rep Payee clients are not currently being accepted, but will resume October 5, 2018. Applicants must have a letter from Social Security stating the requirement of a payee.   • Health & Wellness Services includes an on-site barrier-free medical clinic for individuals experiencing homelessness run by Parkland Hospital (open Monday through Friday on a walk-in basis); mental health services provided by Metrocare (open Monday through Friday on a walk-in basis and by appointment at 214.939.3933); eye exams (once a month - please see front desk staff for details); and a dental clinic (starting February 5, 2018, the dental clinic will be temporarily closed; date of reopening to be announced).  

  • Additional services are also available, including morning coffee, hygiene item distribution, Bible study, clothing , benefits assistance, counseling, HIV testing, Legal Aid, and mail distribution. Please see the front desk for details, and for days and times these services are provided.     

Other programs include:

  • STREETZine, a street paper published by The Stewpot, offers financial opportunity to the homeless and at-risk of Dallas. Vendor orientations are held at 2:00 p.m. every Wednesday. 

  • Art Program is offered for clients looking for an environment in which to express themselves and create through the medium of art. For Open Art Program enrollment, come to the Stewpot front desk at 9:30 a.m. on Fridays and ask to meet the Art Program Director.

  • Horticultural Therapythrough The Stewpot Garden Group, meets every Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

  • Community Court is held annually to assist clients in resolving City of Dallas Class C misdemeanors. We also offer a court for resolution of DART citations. Please check with the front desk for info on upcoming court dates. 

  • Dallas Street Choir rehearsals are held Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Please line up at the 1822 Young Street entrance before 9:30 a.m. 


All programs and casework services - except Meal Services - are provided at the First Presbyterian Church Community Ministries Building, 408 Park Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75201, located at the corner of Young Street and Park Avenue in downtown Dallas.
