Opening Reception + Docent Tours:
"Tiny's Family Life, 2003-2005" + "Photography and Social Justice"

Saturday, April 14
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Museum of Street Culture at Encore Park, 1822 Young Street, Dallas, 75201 (The Stewpot)

The Museum of Street Culture at Encore Park, in association with the Mary Ellen Mark Foundation, invites you to the opening of "Tiny's Family Life, 2003-2005", the third installation in the incremental and progressive exhibition "Looking for Home: A Yearlong Focus on the Work of Mary Ellen Mark" and "Photography and Social Justice", featuring artworks by youth, ages 11-16, in The Stewpot’s Junior and Venturing Crews.

The opening reception, April 14 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, will include a free meal and docent-led tours will be available.

"Photography and Social Justice" was developed as an educational initiative by The Stewpot’s Junior and Venturing Crews and The Museum of Street Culture. The photographs, to be installed in the panels above the parking garage adjacent to 1822 Young Street, were created by youth, ages 11-16, in The Stewpot’s Junior and Venturing Crews, challenged children to explore the neighborhood surrounding The Stewpot and the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas and discuss what they saw on the street, the indicators of homelessness, and how photographs can help make people more aware of issues related to social justice. The girls and boys took turns making photographs, and the length of time that each used one of the cameras varied. The resulting photographs were collaborative, expressing the inspiration and creativity of each of the participants in different ways.

“Change Your World with One Simple Act of Kindness”

Join us for a red carpet preview screening of Same Kind of Different as Me benefitting The Stewpot!

SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME is based on the inspiring true story of international art dealer Ron Hall (Greg Kinnear), who befriends a homeless man (Djimon Hounsou) in hopes of saving his struggling marriage to Debbie (Renée Zellweger), a woman whose dreams will lead all three of them on the most remarkable journey of their lives. Jon Voight plays Hall's father, with whom he reconciles thanks to the revelations of his new life. Based on the New York Times bestseller by Ron Hall and Denver Moore.

Thanks to a generous donor who is covering all costs for this screening, all proceeds will go directly to The Stewpot. The fair market value of each ticket is $8; therefore, the tax deductible amount of the ticket price is $7.
